Exclusive Interview: Touring the world of fabric Acccessories with Oluwasanya Taiwo: CEO House of Tai




Thanks for dropping by once again..we have  for you today an entrepreneur, a young lady and the C.E.O of the fastest rising home of fabric accessories in Nigeria. Meet 'Oluwasanya Taiwo' the Young and vibrant mind behind the fabric home 'House of Tai' She really proved to us that she is homely and nice too because we had our belly filled during this chat with her. What is your name?

My name is Oluwasanya Taiwo Ruth

 Can you tell us a bit about your educational background?

I am presently in my 3rd year at Tai Solarin University of Education.  I attended Clementine High school along AIT drive, Alagbado for my SSCE and my primary education was at Mount of Blessing Nursery and Primary school @ crystal Estate mile 2. (Though I attended about five primary schools and four secondary schools.. lol)

Can we meet you?

I am a student and an entrepreneur. The brain behind African most sort after accessories outfit HOUSE OF TAI, we are promoting our culture by being creative and innovative with what we do. I am the CEO of House Of Tai, we are into creative fabric accessories such as ear rings, necklace, brooch, fascinator, bangles, purse, sandals and many more. House of Tai Fabric accessories is segmented into 3 to meet all needs, we have (1) House of Tai Academy where we train people at their choice of skill (2) House of Tai Production where we make accessories based on orders for diverse occasions for instance: we make ankara on notepads for formal functions and social functions as giveaways (3) House of Tai Marketing sector where we sell our products.


 What was growing up like?

Growing up for me was fun, independent, challenging and inspiring, though I had hiccups.

What do you do for leisure?

I play with fabrics, Read, hang-out, think and pray

What are the characteristics and competencies of people who are successful in this field?

Consistency, creative mind and hard-work.

What does it take, in your view, to succeed in this field?
Its takes first your passion for it, be skillful and knowledge of what it entails

What type of person is best suited to work in this area?

Someone who is creative

What personal characteristics do you feel contributed most to your success?

Perseverance


Any future plan?

Yes Yes Yes! Our customers are our brand ambassador therefore we are working on how to meet their other needs aside the accessories, we look forward to a complete clothing and accessories outfit.

What is your background ?

Born on the 15th of May 1991.the 6th of six children, from a polygamy home. My state of origin is Ogun-state Obafemi Owode local government. Live all my life in lagos but in 2010 I proceeded to ogun-state (ijebu ode) for my BSC which am still undergoing, got into secondary school 2001-2007. I have always desired to be financially independent and to be able to empower others especially the girl-child.


How did your background lead you to this position?

Being from a polygamous family I had divided attention, so my drive came from books I read, seminars I attended, stories I heard and organisations I belonged to

How did you become interested in this type of work?

Well I attended a seminar a while ago with Ibukun Awosika, so I saw a design of a furniture made with fabrics, as if it was not enough I was heading to the restroom of that same event and I saw a car branded with fabrics and then it kicked off I told myself "I can make anything with fabrics" so I went out to seek knowledge about it.

How long have you worked in this field?

Practically 8 months

What is the most challenging/rewarding aspect of your work/career?

The most challenging aspect is that I have to consistently develop myself as this is a field full of competitors yet less skillful and it requires you to be versatile and creative, could be time taking though.

What are the basic prerequisites for jobs in this field?

Passion!

How did you learn these skills?

Taught myself first then I got the basic skills by training

No educational requirement!

NO

What is the hardest decision you have ever made?

Starting House of Tai with zero kobo

What areas would you go into if not what you do currently?

I would go into Academics because I like the classroom and maybe become a Lecturer or communication as a Presenter.
 
What part of this job do you personally find most satisfying? Most challenging? Least satisfying?

Most satisfying: when my clients wear my accessories . Most challenging: meeting the taste of each individual.
