The Perfect Brow: Eyebrow Tutorial (Video and a Do it yourself approach)

The Perfect Brow: Eyebrow Tutorial

This article was culled from mzmahoganychic.com

Beautifully shaped eyebrows are just as important as the make-up technique you worked so hard to master. My personal preference is to start with my eyebrows first. I will use a brow pencil and concealer as the technique in this tutorial. This version is universal and you can perform it on any brow shape or thickness. Don’t worry about not having a freshly waxed (or in my case threaded) brow.
Items I Used:
  • Anastasia Beverly Hills Brunette/Dark Brown Perfect Brow Pencil/Brush Duo (Retail $22)
  • MAC Cosmetics NW40 Select Cover-Up Concealer (Retail $17 )
  • MAC Cosmetics #263 Small Angled Brush (Retail $18) Note: I use this brush to shape my brow with concealer.
  • [Optional] Anastasia Beverly Hills Espresso Tinted Brow Gel (Retail $21 ) Note:  I use this to set my brows.
  • [Optional] MAC Cosmetics #208 Angled Brow Brush (Retail $19.50) Note: I use this brush to fill my brow when I opt to use powder (instead of filling my brows with a pencil).
  • [Optional] MAC Cosmetics #226 Duo Fibre Blending Brush (Retail: $30) Note: I use this brush to blend in the concealer.
  • [Optional] Milani Medium Brow Fix Kit (Retail $6) Note: I use this kit when filling my brow with powder instead of the pencil.
It is important to understand your personal eyebrow layout. Think of below as a basic map for you to customize.

Start by using your pencil to draw your desired under arch from the inner-brow toward the outer-brow (Reference Diagram: Point B to Point E).

Use your brow pencil to create your upper arch with your desired thickness. Again, start from the inner-brow toward the outer-brow  (Reference Diagram: Point B to Point E).

Fill-in your brow using your pencil. You can also use brow powder and an angled brush. (Tip: Try not to be heavy-handed or the result will be drastically dark eyebrows)

Use your eyebrow brush to blend and smooth-out harsh pencil/powder lines.

Pay special attention to the inner-brow. Buff and blend to smooth-out harsh pencil/powder lines.

Dab a little concealer onto your angled brow brush. Shape your under arch by drawing a line with the angled brow brush. This technique is very important for thicker brows or unruly hairs.

In a downward motion smooth and blend the concealer. (Tip: An angled blending brush works perfect as a second step. Blend in a right to left, left to right motion in the shape of your brow.)

Complete the same steps to your upper arch.

Be sure to blend the concealer into your skin. I like to finish with a brow gel because it keeps the hairs in place. Here is the pre-foundation & eye shadow look:

Remember, you control the thickness and the arch. Practice until you find your perfect brow.
